Cd release of WINTER STEPS and SUMMER SKIES (2025)

This CD presents eight works spanning half a century of contemporary Danish classical music, from 1973 to 2024. Each in his own way, the composers are eminent figures in Danish music after WW2, and some of them have even held important positions as teachers of composition, naturally drawing on their special insight into the music of our times and its background. In addition, the CD draws attention to a particular feature of modern classical music writing in Denmark — the inspiring presence of the fully developed free-bass button accordion (the bayan), ready to be employed and explored as a solo instrument, as a voice integrated in various chamber music configurations and indeed as the soloist in front of a full symphony orchestra. The accordion and the cello go well together, musically, and in this case even on a personal level: Danish virtuosi Bjarke Mogensen (b.1985) and Toke Møldrup (b.1980) have performed together for many years now and with two exceptions (Toccata and Reflekser) all music recorded here was written specifically for them.
